A Spark In The Dark

After I had met you
I found out that hope can be so wounding
Now I know what love can do
As the pieces of my heart are still falling

You made me fade in-and-out of heaven
Allowing me the taste of peace momentarily
And you're right back to testing my withdrawing patience
While I plunge back into the same old hell with this vulnerability

The feeling is too raw
A tug of war between different kinds of torment
I'm missing you so much
A never ending stalemate, the sorrow is infinite

I hadn't even noticed you did until it was too late...

My heart tried to defend itself, trying to keep you at a distance like it does with everyone else in my life...
It built up walls, so high and strong built from my past's scars...
Traps were laid throughout it, fooling the foolish who fell for them...
Weapons were made at the ready to harm anyone who got too close to me, who were important to me...

But you evaded them all...
All the walls, all the traps, and all the weapons...
You dodged, weaved, jumped, and deflected each blow from my cold and dark heart...

Pale Winter SunEmbedded in the grass, dead leaves are fitted with icy suits of armor..
And only when the sun bathes them in the morning do they cast away the battle of the night.
I can see the transformation as the light crawls across the ground.
Ice prevails in shadow.. Shrinks in the sun.
Leaving a stark, dividing line where the heat has not yet traveled.

In this deepening November..
I find the cold can no longer reach into my bones the way it used to.
The frost now melts on the surface.
Leaving the marrow within warm and undisturbed..
Untouched. Finally allowed to mend the fissures of the past.

Discarded.You cry for your sorrows and you bleed for your dreams,
Just always remember, this world is not what it seems.
You can be the best of friends and then disappear,
They'll just discard you, I know it's hard to hear.

But this has happened enough to me,
It's all everyone's been doing recently.
So here I lie, discarded, fearing to stand up,
Because what waits just isn't worth getting up.

Thrown away and lying in a puddle of mud and blood,
All the other times I got up, and wiped off the mud.
But this time, as I lie here, broken and bloody,
I don't want to get up, I want to be a dead body.

I know getting up is inevitable, because I will never give in,
But I really just want to give up and say that "I'm done in."

She had never thought of herself as brokenShe had never thought of herself as broken,
as missing, as unfinished, as incomplete.
She used to think she was complete, accomplished;
her flaws hidden, her heart healed and soul varnished.
Her Creator had made her independent -
she did not need her "other half" to be whole.

she ached, trapped under the weight of missing him.
She craved his presence, his arms around her waist,
his hands in her hair, his eyes locked on to hers.

When I was a kid I used to play pretend
Oblivious those times would one day end

I would pretend I was an astronaut
Exploring deepest space
I'd use my pillows as a rocket ship
And the blankets as the caves

Sometimes I would imagine
That I was on TV
I used a box as the frame
And cut a hole for a screen

I would always swing a bat
Pretending that I played
Baseball in the sun
While drinking lemonade

I always thought I was a doctor
With my plastic stethoscope
Healing all the animals
With cotton and some soap

I would pretend I was on stage
Strumming air guitar
Singing in a microphone
Into a sea of endless

Was I crazy to think
That I could have
Every part of you?

Wishing to be in your arms
That'd your heart beat for me
And I'd be the one you'd lay your eyes on

Yes
I was always insane
Loosing my grip
Changing slowly everyday

Where has my sanity wandered off to?
Because
I know for a fact
I can't have you without it.

This lifetime search
For something so trivial
Has ruined it all for me

I have wasted the years
Shedding the tears
All because you never wanted me
